In August 2026 we scored the AI visibility of 90 top SaaS domains using our open-source engine. Here is exactly what we found - and how you can reproduce it.
| Tier | Range | Share of domains | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Excellent | 81-100 | 6.7% | |
| Good | 61-80 | 50.0% | |
| Fair | 41-60 | 41.1% | |
| Poor | 21-40 | 2.2% | |
| Critical | 0-20 | 0% |
Most SaaS domains are "Good" at the fundamentals. Very few are truly optimized for AI extraction - and almost none are invisible.
Each domain was scored across six signals, each weighted to produce a 0-100 score:
| Signal | Weight | What it measures |
|---|---|---|
| Schema completeness | 25% | JSON-LD structured data (Organization, FAQPage, Article, etc.) |
| Entity consistency | 20% | @id linkage, sameAs links, brand definition, OG/Twitter meta |
| Content structure | 20% | Substantial text, FAQ-style questions, lists/tables, meta description |
| Technical structure | 15% | H1/H2 hierarchy, nav/main landmarks, microdata |
| Crawlability | 10% | AI crawler access (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot) + robots.txt |
| llms.txt | 10% | Dedicated llms.txt file for AI crawler discovery |
The engine fetches each domain's homepage, robots.txt, and llms.txt, then scores the signals. The full source is open source (MIT) - the scoring code and the raw dataset are on GitHub.
Schema is the biggest gap. The average schema score was 26.6/100 - by far the weakest signal. Most sites either have no structured data or use it inconsistently.
llms.txt is becoming standard. 72% of the domains we scanned publish one. It is cheap to add and directly signals AI crawlers.
Blocking AI crawlers is a real problem. 9 of the 100 domains we attempted were bot-blocked (403/406/429) and could not be scored. If your robots.txt blocks GPTBot and friends, you are invisible by choice.
We attempted 100 domains; 9 were bot-blocked and 1 was unreachable, leaving 90 scored. Scores reflect each domain's public homepage at scan time - they change as sites change. This is a snapshot, not a live feed, and not a ranking of "best" companies.
